Did you know that the human body does not naturally manufacture vitamin C? Because of this we must get it from dietary sources (but many animals, including dogs, do manufacture their own vitamin C).  A whole-food source of vitamins and minerals (such as camu camu) is more bioavailable than an isolated lab produced source, and contains all the necessary co-factors to maximize your body's ability to utilized the medicinal components contained within.

CAMU CAMU is a superfood champion originating from the Amazonian rainforest in Peru. Camu contains a myriad of nutrients and powerful plant compounds, but is best known as one of the most concentrated botanical sources of Vitamin C in the world (2–3% of fresh weight). Our camu originates in the mineral rich soil of the Amazonian Rainforest, is organic, vegan, gluten free and low temperature processed. It takes 5.6 kg of fresh fruit (including the skins and seeds) to make 1 kg of Giddy Yo dried camu camu powder. 1.5 tsp. (5g) of Giddy Camu camu contains approximately 880% of the RDI of Vitamin C.

Camu is a wild growing bushy riverside tree bearing a cherry-like fruit with a purplish red skin and a yellow pulp surviving best in hot, damp tropical climates. Camu thrives in the Amazonian flood plain taking four to five years for the bush to bear fruit. Both the wild and cultivated variety can remain productive for several decades.

Camu is typically harvested directly into a freezer boat, which travels down the waterways of the Amazon where it is picked at the height of ripeness and flash-frozen. It’s then taken to a processing plant where it is thawed, processed, and spray dried. The resulting powder is tangy and ranges from a pale pink to yellow beige to a brick red colour.

How to eat Giddy Yo CAMU CAMU: Use ¼-1 tsp. per serving. For best results use in divided doses throughout the day, as many times as needed. When you feel a little funk coming on increase the dosage. Vitamin C is water soluble and therefore will not cause toxicity. Try blending camu in juice, water or smoothies, raw ice creams and desserts. Use common sense caution when introducing any new food into your diet.

    My go to Vitamin C, as recommended by my Naturopath, after Tru C (NOW) was no longer on the market in 2015. The Camu Camu powder is excellent quality. Should be kept airtight and cold. I keep a small airtight, white container in the fridge with a small scoop held on the outside with an elastic. I keep the remainder well-sealed and store it in the freezer, refilling my fridge container, as needed.
