OUR ROOTS

It's true - growing up, I never liked dark chocolate. Or chocolate of any kind, really. Sugar? Yes. Cookies? Absolutely. But dark chocolate? Hard pass. (Though I'd make an exception for the occasional Reese's peanut butter cup). Why my mom adored chocolate cake was a complete mystery to me.

I was that mom- the stay-at-home variety, passionately (some might say obsessively) devoted to feeding my gaggle of kids clean, organic, home-cooked food. A passion that ignited in 1994, the moment I learned I was pregnant with my first. Four kiddos in five years called for real fuel, and I took my mom job seriously. Two home births. No fluoride. No immunizations. Hours-long pilgrimages to collect the purest spring water. You get the gist.

Fast forward to 2007. Thirty-seven years into life- and the year my love for dark chocolate finally awakened. And it wasn't of my own doing. Credit goes to my kids and a good friend. The kids wanted chocolate; my friend had the low-down on the power of raw cacao. So I started experimenting. I set out to create something the kiddos would love, and to my surprise, I fell in love too. It wasn't even difficult. That's the win-win: nutritious food my kids actually enjoyed, and fuel that powered me through a bustling schedule- intense daily workouts included. This chocolate became a mom's dream. And a little thought took root: Maybe other moms would appreciate this healthy chocolate thing too...

Now here we are, nearly two decades later. Giddy Yo started in my kitchen, blossomed into a business two years later, grew up at farmers' markets, and now lives in health food stores across Canada, plus online, of course, because you're here. Proof that God has a sense of humour!

Where to next? Only the Lord knows. But wherever He leads, I pray it will indeed help others live their best life.

I am truly thankful- blessed beyond measure to have this opportunity to create and serve. I am committed to continue caring for our loyal Giddy Yo fam, and in doing so, to serve our Father in heaven.
