Maca is a root vegetable and member of the cruciferous family of plants that includes broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, turnips and radishes. Maca grows both wild and cultivated in central Peru in the high elevation region of the Andes mountains. Peruvian people have been cultivating this crop in this harsh cold climate for more than 3000 years and used as a staple food in their diet.  Maca is eaten dried, baked, boiled and mashed, used in soups, and made into a fermented drink called maca chichi.

GY MACA Powder originates from the Junin Plateau high in the Peruvian Andes Mountains of South America.  Today, the Quechua people continue to grow this superfood at its natural altitude as high as 4500m, making maca the highest-altitude crop on Earth. The character and properties of maca have been developed by the extreme conditions under which it grows, thriving in the intense sunlight and thin atmospheric conditions.

Our maca is low temperature processed and certified USDA Organic, EU Europe, JAS Japan and KUI Peru Kosher.

Maca has an earthy taste that is slightly nutty with a hint of butterscotch. Maca is also a great emulsifier and can be used to draw fats/oils together with starches/sugars in any recipe.

Suggested Usage: Try eating maca in smoothies and creative chocolate concoctions, power balls or adding it to coffee, elixirs, water, juice, and nut & seed mylks. Maca can also be added into flour for dessert recipes.  Start with 1-2 tsp. and work up to 1-2 TBS daily.  Use common sense caution when introducing ANY new food into your diet working your way up to larger amounts.

  1. Caused my stomach to get upset

Posted by Unknown on 5th Nov 2016

I bought this having done minimal research about raw maca powder vs. gelatinized. This powder however tastes great, which is hard to wrap my mind around. If your digestive system is sensitive this might not be good for you. I am considering roasting this powder in hopes it will be easier for me to digest. I had been using 2 teaspoons, which I worked up to. I tried going down to 1 again, and it was still causing stomach upset.

  2. Great, balanced energy

Posted by Caroline on 9th Feb 2016

I was looking for a balanced energy for my teas and smoothies and I found it in this maca! Having wanted to try it for a while, I was delighted to see GY carried it because they have the purest products you can find. The maca has been a wonderful additional to our herb cabinet, and I love it in teas, smoothies, I even sprinkled some on my cereal the other day. Great product!

Excellent product. I add it to my daily morning smoothie for a great energy boost. Taste is appealing and does not leave any after taste. Also use it as an ingredient for my energy balls.

  5. Want Energy? Try Maca

Posted by The Vegatarian on 7th Oct 2014

This is by far my favorite superfood! It truly gives you the energy and endurance needed throughout the day. I add it to my morning smoothies for the ultimate boost. I've tried other brands of maca and was really not pleased with the quality and taste but Giddy Yoyo maca is insanely delicious and is virtually tasteless when added to food! I've even added maca to my oatmeal and pasta sauces.
